they heard us coming

they heard us coming,
creeping on all fours so that our footstep would not be detected
who knew they had guns pointed at us even in the stillness of night
we knew what was right when we chose to fight
the smiles of innocence fueled us with pride while we face our demons
they had guns but we had the words of many
whose cries would not be silenced again
we arose and stood together in solidarity chanting we will not be silenced
our words echoed throughout the night
in the hearts of those that heard our cries our screams and our fearless stance
we arose to fight for what we deemed to be right
with tears in our eyes we faced down barrels of guns pointed at us
we stepped forward to make our first stand
they shot in the skies as a warning of what would come next
it pierced the night like lightening striking a tree the sound split our hearts in two
we stepped closer determined not to let fear be our ruler
the guns point at us and we heard then cork and place aim
the sound pierced our ears even though they stood far from us
determined to prove a point we cheer our deaths will be heard
our cries in history will forever stand
they will echo through the ages and people will know what transpired here
our chants echoes throughout the skies
and howling at the moon we began to run forward to make our demands
they shot and many fell
bullets flew pasts and through peoples hearts
as they lay there bleeding many marched forward carrying their hopes forward
fear shall not rule us and our voices will be heard
echoed though the thundering of guns being fired and bullets entering bear skin
the voices of freedom continue to echo in the hearts of those that heard our cries
our voices no longer silenced our pain no longer hidden
history has become our platform for greatness
they heard us coming gunned us down but our voices will forever be heard
in the stillness of night we made our mark and we anchored our presence in history
